What Do You Value?

Commentary – Monday, June 26, 2023

John 3:30 NIV               Matthew 6:21 NIV                     Matthew 6:33 NIV

What do you value?  Your lifestyle demonstrates that which you value.  It’s wonderful to have values.  In fact, we all have things, morals, and standards that we value.  So, the question rephrased is what do you value most?  John 3:30 – 30 He must become greater; I must become less.”[a]Does your life depict this scripture in John?  Is it apparent that your treasures are aligned with God’s plan and purpose? Matthew 6:21 – 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Do you seek God’s face, His guidance, and His love in all that you do? Matthew 6:33 – 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

God wants us to be proud of the accomplishments with which He has blessed us.  He wants us to love our children, family members, and friends.  He wants us to enjoy some material things in life.  The point is those things must not be treasured over God.  We must not give more credit to anything than God.  Let your light shine, so others will see Christ in you.  Don’t build up treasurers that become cherished idols of our worship.  All earthly things can be destroyed and will pass away.  The answer to the leading question is personal.  Put some time into thinking about what do you really value most in every area of your life.  Whatever you value most, is what the world sees in your behavior, your thoughts, and your time.
