Left Behind…Disturbing the Peace (peace stealers)

John 16:33 NIV

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Romans 14:19: “Make every effort to do what leads to peace

If we’re honest, there are things in life that get us to a point of uneasiness and discomfort.  Just take a closer look at what just disturbs your peace.  Think about these four (4) things that can cause a disturbance of our peace:

  1. Disobedience is a major peace stealer.  Disobedience causes stress and Stress leads to a myriad of health problems, both physical and mental.  Disobedience to God is a fatal flaw, because when we are disobedient to God, He has a way of getting our attention to focus on Him.  Not just on Him, but what He is calling and/or wills for us to do.  While we are in a season of attention-getting, and running away from the very thing God has for us, we’ve lost peace.  Your spirit is disturbed and nothing seems to go right, because you’re out of sync with God.  Leave disobedience behind and follow God’s lead.
  2. Seeking others, not seeking God.  If you please God; it doesn’t matter who you displease.  Stop putting the favor of man above the favor of God.  Man’s favor is temporary; God’s favor is everlasting.  Scriptures warns us that man is deceitful.  God never changes.  He’s true to His word. There’s no way we will be able to please everyone.  Everyone is not going to like you.  Know that having God in your corner is worthiness.  Don’t get caught up in the temporary pleasures of man, leave it behind.  Seek ye first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33) leave the desire for earthly popularity behind. God’s favor will put you in front of the right people for the right reason and/or the right season.
  3. Poor stewardship/Lack of finances, provision – Having an attitude of self-sufficiency is a deception.  Our finances suffer lack at times because we’re not totally dependent on God.  Nothing is worse than not having the resources you need when you need them.  Life can be stressful and hopeless when you don’t have sufficient finances.  Therefore, we must look at our stewardship habits.  How are we managing the resources with which God has blessed us?  Leave poor stewardship behind.  Practice good stewardship habits and be at peace with God’s provision.

When your peace is disturbed, you experience sleepless nights, anxious feelings, worry. Be in prayer about what is disturbing your peace.  Chart a new course to being peaceful and at peace with God.
