SHARING THE GOSPEL

2 Timothy 4:1-5 NIV (a message from Paul to Timothy)

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Sharing the gospel gives God glory when we take on the ministry of Christ (that is the gospel).  Why is it so important?  Sharing the gospel impacts the lives of others.  I’ve never met anyone who got to know Jesus and remained the same.

  • Impact the lives of others – Gospels of Mark (5:24–34), Matthew (9:20–22), and Luke (8:42–48). The women with the issue of blood.  The woman with the issue of blood heard about Jesus through reports and rumors of his miraculous healing abilities circulating among the crowds.  She had heard about his miraculous healings and came to believe that if she could just touch the hem of his cloak, she would be healed.
  • Acts 3 (The lame beggar at the gate) Silver and gold I do not have: Peter didn’t have any money, but he did have authority from Jesus to heal the sick (what I do have I give to you). Peter knew what it was like to have God use him to heal others, because Jesus had trained him in this (Luke 9:1-6). Here was an act of obedience-doing what they had been trained to do.

In conclusion, don’t forsake your opportunity to share the gospel.  What a blessing it is to be in a position to tell someone about Jesus and see their lives change for the better.  After all, we have changed because someone told us about Jesus…someone shared the gospel with us.  I leave you with the great commission:  We are instructed to go and make disciples Matthew 28:19-20 NIV The Great Commission.

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
